报告摘要:Maple species including red maple (Acer rubrum) and sugar maple (Acer saccharum) are indigenous to eastern North America and widely known for their sap, which is used to produce maple syrup, a premium natural sweetener. Our group has initiated a program to investigate the phytochemical constituents of maple syrup and red maple plant parts, as well as their biological activities including antioxidant, anti-diabetes, and skin protective effects. In addition, we have developed Maplifa®, a phenolics enriched red maple leaves extract, as a bioactive cosmeceutical ingredient.

Hang Ma, Ph.D., is the Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at College of Pharmacy of the University of Rhode Island (URI), and the Associate Director of Bioactive Botanical Research Laboratory at URI.  His research interests include the phytochemical and biological investigations of natural products from medicinal plants and functional foods for their therapeutical, nutraceutical, and cosmeceutical applications. Dr. Ma has co-authored over 70 original peer-reviewed research articles and an international patent.  He is also a member of the editorial board of journals including Cannabis and Cannabinoids Research and Journal of Cannabis Research, as well as reviewer for several journals (e.g. Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Journal of Functional Foods, Food & Function, and Food Chemistry, etc).
